P.SO - Some Fun (Redux)

Posted 6 years ago
Producer:
Doppelgangaz
Album:
More Jelly

The only thing you can expect from P.SO (a.k.a. the Earth Tone King) is the unexpected, but for those still trying to wrap their heads around the man’s previous offering Mind Over Matter, P.SO has made his new single, Some Fun, well, just flat out fun. From the moment we hear producer Doppelgangaz (great name, by the way) boom-bap percussion we know we’re in for some good times, and sure enough the record slowly builds into a cruising, late summer vibe perfect for the coming autumn. And while we still get the occasional left of center reference (Dick Tracy and Dr. Spock anyone?), here P.SO harkens back to hip-hop’s good ol’ days, lightly flowing over the beat with lines like, “In the zone like Kobe when he hit 80 / take a seat lady, maybe we can make a quick baby.’ If you hate having a good time, I guarantee you’ll hate this one. Fun is the first offering off More Jelly, the re-release of SO’s recently released and amazingly titled album Suicide by Jellyfish, which is scheduled to hit DJBooth’s homepage on October 5.
