The Purpose of Confidence

If you were to ask a dozen Booth readers to describe their personal Vision of Excellence in the hip-hop arena, no two answers would be the same. I think we all can agree, however, that Purpose and Confidence are key ingredients. Today, I’m proud to introduce you to an emcee and producer who are, respectively, the embodiments of those essential traits. On the twosome’s Booth debut and latest single, emcee Purpose (a founding member of underground crew Tragic Allies) laces the old-school boardwork of beatsmith Confidence (of Rashad &... fame) with bars emphasizing his commitment to “higher-lever rhymin’.” Tragic Ally Estee Nack and Queensbridge legend Cormega exhibit similar lyrical perfectionism in their guest verses, and DJ Technic does his thing behind the wheels of steel on the sampled hook. For more underground jams built to the duo’s exacting standards, check out collaborative album The Purpose of Confidence when it hits record stores and online retailers in September.
