The Renaissance

Most non-diehard fans think of the artist Q-Tip first as a member of the legendary group A Tribe Called Quest, and second as a solo artist from whom they have waited years for new material.  What casual (and some longtime) listeners probably fail to recognize, however, is Tip also possesses skills behind the boards and in front of two turntables.  Out of the twelve songs on his new album, The Renaissance, only one doesn’t feature his behind-the scenes talents; that record is Move.  Produced by the cherished J. Dilla, the single contains a sample from The Jackson Five’s hit record Dancing Machine, which reached #2 at Billboard back in 1972.  In order for the Harlem native to reach the top of the charts 36 years later, simply pick up a copy of The Renaissance on your way to the voting booth on November 4.
