RatheMC - Intoxicated

Heart of a Champion

It’s been a hell of a year for RatheMC. When she dropped her last solo DJBooth feature, Spaceships, a year ago she was a relatively unknown DMV rapper. Fast forward 365 and Ra’s got a video in rotation on VH1, just finished filming a Sprite commercial with Drake and is gearing up to release her debut album Heart of a Champion. But don’t worry, Ra hasn’t become Intoxicated by her growing fame – her new single finds the DJBooth Freestyle alum as sober and down to Earth as ever. Built around a sample of Lauryn’s Hill’s staggeringly beautiful Sweetest Thing, which boardsmith AB The Producer deftly flips, Intoxicated finds Ra reflecting on where she’s going, and where she’s been: “Round here, instead of fake it till you make it, they hate it till you make it then say that you they favorite.” She hasn’t “made it” yet, but with more tracks like this, Ra will continue to convert haters like a hip-hop missionary. For more music from the Heart of a Champion, stay tuned to DJBooth, who will be dropping RatheMC’s sure-to-be-dope project “soon”.
