Brooklyn rapper Red Cafe refuses to pose for a picture without affecting the meanest scowl into which his face can contort. Since I’m familiar with neither his work nor his nature, I’ll have to take his outward appearance for its face value and assume that the man is just that hard. Judging from what little can be gathered about him, “Red” is the namesake of his street-hustling father, while “Cafe” is meant to represent the rapper’s restaurant-like ability to serve up illegal goods to hungry customers. His new street single, So Easy, is a bit of good old-fashioned crime rap. He spends the track bragging about his grind and comparing himself to everyone from Jennifer Tilly to the Arm & Hammer man. Producer Cuts Production handles the beat, employing some laid-back congo drums and legato horns. The track will appear on Red Cafe’s forthcoming debut album, The Shakedown.
