For being one of the most revered groups in rock history, not to mention a favorite and prominent influence of none other than Lil Wayne, Nirvana sure doesn’t seem to get sampled very often – not even on free mixtapes, where clearance issues are routinely ignored. I Don’t Know What It Means either but, after hearing The Redland‘s latest feature, we can definitely cross “Because it would sound bad,” off our list of potential reasons. Making its world premiere at DJBooth.net, this newly-leaked track off the Louisiana/Oklahoma-repping duo’s forthcoming, DJBooth.net-presented mixtape finds Earv Legend and Kose flipping Nevermind track In Bloom into a characteristically insightful meditation on the deceptive nature of the music game. The Redland’s blend of reflective rhymes and soulful sung vocals is as potent as ever, and the sample’s chorus sounds right at home over their pensive, reverb-drenched boardwork. Should more beatsmiths be looking to the grunge greats for musical inspiration? Whatever your take, there’s no denying this track’s appeal. For more from The Redland, check out The Free Album, set to hit the ‘net Sept. 29.
