REKS - Flags
As those who have been paying attention to the political subtext (and, often, straight-up text) of his bars already know, REKS is the last emcee one would expect to see standing before Old Glory with his hand over his heart. In fact, you’re more likely to catch him burning it. For anyone who missed the memo, however, the Boston representative takes the opportunity to tell us how he really feels about the stars and stripes, and the country it represents, on new single Flags. Backed by the grainy synths of Booth-approved beatsmith Numonics, the artist disavows all patriotism, instead pledging allegiance to a higher ideal which America has arguably betrayed: “I don’t live for U.S.A., hear me? / I die for the theory that liberty is liberty.” After seemingly endless delays, REKS’ next studio album has finally received a spot on the release calendar; watch for Revolution Cocktail to drop via iTunes on Tuesday, July 2.
Update: REKS’ Rose Glen Ent.-directed Flags visuals have been added.
