Fans of REKS (which should be everyone) have been anxiously awaiting the release of his album, Revolution Cocktail, but unfortunately the LP seems to have gotten the Detox treatment; its release date has been delayed more times than you can count. Looking to tide his fans over, the Miami-by-way-of-Massachusetts emcee has released new song Mighty Mouse Trap Rap. After listening to the record, though, I have a feeling it might only make fans hungrier for the album. To use an appropriate idiom, “If you give a mouse a cookie…” Over a spiffy, organ-infused beat from Floridian producers Anthem and Vintage, REKS showcases a delivery much more brisk than the laid-back flow he displayed on his last feature, Caged Bird. This cut’s edgier style underscores the emcee’s versatility, suggesting that there will be something for everyone on Revolution Cocktail, when it finally drops. We’re waiting with open ears, REKS!
