A consistent topic among underground rappers is the turmoil in today’s hip-hop world.  Among those who feel this way is Massachusetts artist REKS, who on the song Pray For Me stresses it to the 50th degree.  Pointing out Master P‘s lyrical clean up and the south’s widespread lack of lyricists (REKS does shout out Face, Bun, and Goodie Mob), REKS turns the song into a Suicide Note and rolls off the many late legends of yesteryear.  Although Pray For Me is one of DJBooth’s shorter tracks (clocking in under three minutes), REKS’ livid flow mixed together with Static Selektah‘s dramatic beat (which samples Dead Presidents II with a bit of Triggaman mixed in) makes it worth every second.
