White Jesus

As the self-proclaimed White Jesus of rap, you’d think that Southern buzzmaker Rittz would be a paragon of inner peace, but I guess even a hip-hop messiah’s got to suffer through a few long, dark evenings of the soul. On new mixtape single Nowhere to Run, we find the Slumerican tortured by a pack of inner demons so numerous that it takes three rapidly-flowed verses to list them all. With DJ Burn One‘s tension-fraught guitar/synth production, the artist lyrically depicts the point at which he hit rock bottom – stuck in a low-paying job he hates, afflicted with a bleeding stomach ulcer due to his compulsive drinking, creatively drained and seriously contemplating ending it all. Despite the seeming hopelessness of his situation, he manages to pull through, thanks in part to his label boss (a fellow Booth regular): β€œIf it wasn’t for my homey Yelawolf believin’ in me I’d probably still be feelin’ like my dream was shattered.” Harrowing but ultimately cathartic, this cut is just the beginning of the quality music showcased on Rittz’ Booth-hosted mixtape, available here for free streaming and download.
