Uncontested EP

Rittz’ journey to rap stardom hasn’t been an easy one—on the contrary as we learned on his last solo feature, the moody Nowhere to Run, the Slumerican emcee’s inner demons combined with external circumstances made him a long shot for success. Despite the subterranean lows he’s experienced, however, the Georgia repper has remained on his grind, spurred on by his faith that he’ll be victorious in the end. On Triumphant, leak numero cinco off DJBooth.net and PUMA‘s new compilation EP, DJ Burn One sets a tension-fraught mood with hi-hat-heavy percussion and swirling string accents as the freestyle series alumnus showcases his head-spinning flows, tackling many of the same misfortunes he detailed on the aforementioned joint (“Ain’t got no education, no check done came in, ain’t payin’ the bills I feel desperation…”) This time, though, he tempers his frustrations with an attitude of gratitude and the confidence that hardship will only, “turn [him] into a stronger man.” Topped off with the victorious hook vocals of an uncredited singer, this joint is just one of many bracing bangers to be found on Uncontested, released today and available here for free streaming/download.
