Royce Da 5’9” - New Money

Posted 6 years ago
Producer:
Streetrunner
Album:
Street Hop

Among underground hip-hop fans, one of the most hotly-anticipated sets of ‘09 was Royce Da 5’9”‘s fourth solo album, Street Hop.  After switching his focus to hip-hop supergroup Slaughterhouse, however, the Detroit vet pushed the album to 2010.  Now back in solo mode, Royce showcases the results of his stint in lyrical boot camp on his latest single, New Money. ¬†An uncredited singer (possibly Adela?) adds to the mood with a soulful hook and bridge vocals, and Dirty Southern producer Streetrunner delivers a Northeastern-style beat that the Midwestern emcee fittingly slaughters. Fans may groan (understandably) at the seemingly endless delays, but judging by this track’s quality (and the great DJ Premier‘s role as executive producer) Street Hop will be well worth the wait.
