All in a Day's Work

In the intro to The Rules, Saigon admits with a shrug that, since he got out of prison, writing raps has been low on his priority list – there’s just too much else to do!  Though this might seem like an inauspicious beginning, what follows will reassure listeners that the Brooklyn emcee’s packed schedule hasn’t affected the quality of his rhymes one bit; Saigon lays down the lyrical law here with all the agile intensity that we’ve come to expect.  Tuneful background vocals and driving piano chords form the backbone of Statik Selektah‘s sampled instrumental, and a snippet from Busta Rhymes’ 1997 breakout hit, Woo Hah!! Got You All In Check serves as hook.  The Rules, along with the other nine songs on the tracklist of All in a Day’s Work, represent the product of just 24 hours in the studio; in early March, fans will be able to hear for themselves whether the rest of this whirlwind recording session stands up to the single’s promise.
