Rappers have never been shy about admitting that currency motivates their hustle, and their mercenary attitude toward their craft has rubbed off on many of the biggest names in pop and R&B. So it seems almost quaint to hear UK soul singer Sam Smith insist, “I don’t have Money on My Mind / I do it for the love.” While I doubt that the new Capitol Records signee’s gonna be turning down those major-label checks, his performance here is so passionate that, for a second, I believed him. Two Inch Punch handles production duties, layering piano and eight-bit synths over a driving breakbeat as the artist serenades a special woman in his life. The chirpy falsetto chorus only adds to this joint’s uniquely catchy vibe. Money on My Mind isn’t part of a larger project, but fans can watch our pages for the latest on Smith’s debut studio album, In The Lonely Hour, coming this spring. In the meantime, you can click here to check out his last single, the reader-approved Nirvana.

Update: We have added the Jamie Thraves-directed visuals for Smith’s Money on My Mind.
