Sean Falyon - RIP (Rest in Paradise)

Posted 4 years ago
Producer:
Pete Rock
Album:
None

When reusing one of the most famous beats hip-hop has ever produced, a rapper must use extreme caution because people can easily take it as blatant biting or superior case of megalomania. However, sometimes such a historic beat can be the only key that unlocks the thoughts and emotions caged up within the writer. This is the case of Sean Falyon and his need to let go of the pain caused by learning of the loss of somebody he knew to cancer, and his use of the immaculate T.R.O.Y. instrumental by Pete Rock for his free standing R.I.P. (Rest In Paradise). The emcee takes just one verse to lay it on the line, capitalizing on the theme of reminiscing, eulogizing his recent losses while giving a glimpse into the process of the actual writing of the song. It’s a lot to pack into one verse, but Falyon did what he needed to do – in good taste – over the beat to a song that belongs on the Mount Rushmore of hip-hop tracks.
