Serge Severe - It’s Like That

Posted 3 years ago
Producer:
5th Sequence, cuts by DJ Ozroc
Album:
Boom Bap & Bars Vol. 1 EP

Absent from The DJBooth since introducing himself with last summer’s smoky, reader-approved Seasons, Serge Severe has finally returned to our pages with feature numéro deux. Part of the Portland rhymesayer’s forthcoming collaborative EP with producer 5th Sequence, new single It’s Like That features Serge paying polysyllabically-rhymed tribute to the music that made him the man, and the artist he is today, from Stevie Wonder and Nina Simone to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. 5th takes a fittingly nostalgic tack behind the boards, layering jazzy samples over a head-noddable rhythm section and enlisting DJ Ozroc‘s services behind the wheels of steel. Like what you’re hearing? More fresh, retro-informed jams await on Boom Bap & Bars Vol. 1, set to drop digitally April 16.
