Skyzoo - The Definitive Prayer

Posted 5 years ago
Producer:
David Axelrod
Album:
The Great Debater

An emcee and a beat. That’s all. The Brooklyn born and bred Skyzoo, making his first solo feature appearance on our pages since the Speakers on Blast era, straight “fountain pen baptizes” bars on his latest effort, The Definitive Prayer. The David Axelrod sampled Holy Thursday provides a laid back jazz vibe to the heartfelt, deep and self-reflective lyrics of Prayer, driven by slowly building percussion. And those horns? Yeah, those horns are dope. On the mic very few can spit for over four minutes without a hook and retain a listeners attention, but Sky does just that and more. In fact, The Definitive Prayer is like a hip-hop version of the movie Sixth Sense; at the end you’ll go back to the beginning to peep what you missed. If you’ve got this lyrical opus on repeat you’ll want to check out Skyzoo perform at DJBooth’s free concert tonight (run, you can still make it!), and cop his The Great Debater mixtape, presented by 9th Wonder and Jamla Records and available via DJBooth on June 7.
