Slaine - Night After Night

Artist: Slaine
Track: Night After Night
Producer: Statik Selektah
Album: State Of Grace: The Mixtape

I know what you’re thinking, you never expected to hear Slaine do a remix of Cindy Lauper’s ‘80s pop hit Time After Time, but that’s exactly what we got today with the release of new cut Night After Night. I’m sorry, that’s a complete lie, I just wanted to make sure you were paying attention. In reality, the La Coka Nostra emcee and freestyle series alum’s as lyrically heavy as ever, with nary a Cindy Lauper reference to be found. Instead we get upper cut rhymes that pause just long enough to explain the depths of Slaine’s struggle and give some well earned praise to Ill Bill, Cypress Hill, Everlast and more. While Slaine’s mic work is undoubtedly on point, for me it was Statik Selektah’s beat work that truly stood out; even for the typically dope Statik this is one hell of a head nodder. If you think Chris Brown’s actually a good rapper don’t even bother, but fans of ceaselessly real east coast hip-hop should keep an ear out for Slaine and Statik’s State Of Grace: The Mixtape, set to drop next week right here at the Booth.
