Drown 'em in Beats; Save 'em with Rhymes

If there’s a narcotic that can make crack cocaine look innocuous, methamphetamine is it—and few locales have been hit as hard by the drug as Hawaii, where treatment facilities can are powerless to keep pace with ever-rising abuse rates. Here to raise consciousness regarding the dire situation in their local streets are Salt Lake, Hi. beat crew Slapp Symphony and fellow Aloha State native Slo-Mo with new single Ice Palace. Led off with a sampled news report featuring some alarming statistics, Let-T-Let and Westbrook‘s chilly, piano-led beat sets an ominous mood as the Fortilive rhymesayer describes speed’s effects on his community in general, and his friends and classmates in particular: “My coastline lookin’ like a ghetto out of the South, old classmates’ teeth fallin’ out of they mouth / B*tches that I used to dig smokin’ ice in front of they kids, pregnant with another in the crib.” Sobering, incisive and defiantly real, this downbeat jam is just one of many quality tunes set for inclusion on Slapp Symphony’s Drown ‘em in Beats; Save ‘em with Rhymes LP, released on Black Friday and available now online.
