Slum Village ft. Vice - Live it Up

Producer:
Young RJ
Album:
Dirty Slums: Evolution

As a glance over today’s Billboard charts will attest, there are no shortage of hip-hop artists willing to party the night away, Masque of the Red Death-style, while the rest of the world burns. And I can’t blame ‘em—when times are tough, a little vacation from reality is a beautiful thing. But when iconic Detroit crew Slum Village boast that they “Live It Up” on their latest street single, popping bottles with models ain’t exactly what they have in mind. Young RJ‘s eerie, arpeggiated-guitar instrumental (complete with creepy, muffled vocal samples) is the first tipoff that the picture T3, Elzhi and guest spitter Vice paint here is going to be a bleak one. Sure enough, the collaborators are only living large in comparison to their fellow trap denizens, thanks to their superior capacity for violence and intimidation. Has this girtty selection left you craving more hard-hitting cuts from the current incarnation of Slum Village? Then you’ll find what you seek on their Dirty Slums: Evolution tape, scheduled to hit The DJBooth in November for free streaming and digital purchase.
