SMKA Presents: A Kato Production

As a very wise Hallmark card once told me, “Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift; that’s why they call it the present.” Painful clichés aside, SMKA know that there’s no time like right now to unleash some dope new music upon the listening public and, as such, the Booth-acclaimed beat crew have decided to bite the bullet and bring our readers the world premiere of the second leak off Kato‘s DJBooth-sponsored street album. Coming on the heels of Huey Mack‘s Good Night, The Gift finds the newest SMKA member coming together with Booth regulars Planet VI to craft an eminently fresh—not to mention punctual—hustle anthem. Over a whip-ready, 808-driven groove, brothers Da Spokesman and Don’t Talk Much flaunt their mic skills, their work ethic and their Virgin Islander pride (“Born and raised in the Islands, burt now I live in the States / Keep a bunch of Island n*ggas around me like we in a parade. ”) in bold and brash verses. Are you feeling it, or should this present have come with a gift receipt? I think I know the answer but, as always, our readers will issue the final verdict. SMKA Presents: A Kato Production, a new tape celebrating Kato’s addition to the SMKA collective, is scheduled to hit our mixtape page April 26, for free streaming and download.
