Snoop Dogg - Gin & Juice

Posted 2 years ago
Producer:
Dr. Dre
Album:
Doggystyle

Today, Snoop Dogg is less a rapper than a multi-genre, multimedia juggernaut; from reality shows, to video games, to films, to (most recently) reggae albums, the Long Beach icon has left his mark on nearly every corner of popular culture. Though his cool, collected attitude and keen business sense certainly helped him build his brand, he might never have become the household name he is today if it weren’t for a certain 1993 hit. Single number two off debut solo album Doggystyle, Gin & Juice offers an indelible illustration of Snoop’s lyrical persona and an instantly-appealing distillation of the G-Funk sound. Dr. Dre‘s slow-rolling production, featuring an original bassline by T. Green and an iconic hook interpolated from Slave’s Watching You, backs the rhymesayer as he outlines his m.o.: “Rollin’ down the street, smokin’ indo, sippin’ on gin and juice / Laid back… with my mind on my money and my money on my mind.” The official video, created by Dre in conjunction with Calvin Caday and Anita Sisaath features a conrnucopia of notable cameos, including appearances by Nate Dogg, Daz Dillinger, Warren G and even a very lil’ Bow Wow.
