Snoop Dogg - Raised in the Hood
Snoop Dogg continues his Puff Puff Pass Tuesdays series with Raised in the Hood, a song dedicated to East Side Long Beach, the locale he grew up in and has represented throughout his career. Hood, co-produced by Warry “Baby Dubb” Campbell and DJ Reflex, has that speaker rattling, old school West Coast sound that has always allowed Snoop to seem at home. The Doggfather kicks off the song by quoting the famous saying “you can take me out the hood but you cant take the hood out of me” and from there rolls into his verses with a laid back flow recounting all of the elements that have made him who he is as a person and as an artist: “I was thuggin’ in the Beach when I lit my first doobie / In the same city when I got my first piece of coochie / here I sold my first dime and I held my first Uzi.” After some mixed reviews on his previous offerings, can Raised in the Hood create the buzz the Doggfather needs for his upcoming album The Doggumentary, scheduled to be released on March 29? That’s up to you to decide.
