Spree Wilson - Love You Better

Posted 5 years ago
Producer:
Shoden!1 and Spree Wilson
Album:
The Never Ending Now

Anyone who knows Spree Wilson knows to expect the unexpected. He refuses to be confined to the traditional idea of hip-hop, rock, pop or any genre. Love You Better is yet another example of his commitment to be non-committal to convention. Upon first listen, your mind will probably go to the B.o.B. comparisons, and with good reason. Both guitar strumming, melody loving ATLiens are alums of the Andre 3K Conservatory of Unconventional Funk, Bobby just seemed to get the perfect gig post graduation, while Spree is still trying to land the big job. Love You Better could get the job done, with a beat produced by Wilson himself and Shoden!1 that’s simultaneously dark and hopeful, with moody minor keys, a New Orleans brass section funeral breakdown, and a frantic drum & bass ending just to keep things interesting. It’s the perfect backdrop to Wilson’s rhymes about getting through to his guarded love interest. With his next album, The Never Ending Now, coming soon, we’ll see just how much he steps out of the shadows of his fellow artists, and into his own.
