Statik Selektah ft. Consequence - Mr. Popularity

Album:
Stick 2 The Script

A wise man once said “Speech is silver, but silence is golden.”  Evidently, Brooklyn producer and DJBooth favorite Statik Selektah has taken that phrase to heart; on his debut album, Stick 2 The Script, he stays silent for the entire set, entrusting in his production to stand out to the listener.  Confused?  Well, than take a listen to Mr. Popularity, on which Queens native and longtime A Tribe Called Quest collaborator Consequence centers his entire verse around the word “pop.”  Possibly inspired by DJ Premier, Statik laces his electric guitar-horn beat with some pre-made sampling on the hook (including, for those keeping score, Jay-Z‘s verse from Young Jeezy‘s Go Crazy (Remix), Lil’ Wayne‘s first verse from Stuntin’ Like My Daddy, T.I.‘s last line from Big Things Poppin, and Eric B. & Rakim‘s My Melody).  Stick 2 The Script will be available in stores and online October 21.
