Tate Tucker - Master Plan

Posted 4 years ago
Producer:
Shep Bryan
Album:
Virgin Liberation

Though many rappers like to make it sound like they were born with a mic in their hands, I’m guessing that, if they really thought about it, most would be able to pinpoint the moment that they fell in love with the idea of pursuing hip-hop full-time. Booth newcomer Tate Tucker certainly can—in fact, it’s up on YouTube. Inspired to devote his life to rap after wowing Lupe in Michael Eric Dyson’s “Sociology of Hip Hop” class just last year (and having lunch with the Chi-town heavyweight afterward), the Georgetown grad is already one street album deep into his burgeoning career, and working on a follow-up. On Master Plan, the latest single off his sophomore set, Tate gives listeners a little insight into his ongoing love affair with the game. Over Shep Bryan‘s soulful beat (sampled from Syl Johnson’s Could I Be Falling in Love), he makes clear just how central beats and rhymes have become to his life: “It’s more than music and the music more than literal / Thant sh*t is metaphysical and powerful and literal.” The West Coast rhymesayer’s certainly got the right attitude, but are you feeling his style, feeling his flow? If so, don’t miss the artist’s Virgin Liberation LP when it hits the ‘net Feb. 12, 2012.
