Hero worship has long been part of the rap game, with new emcees enthusiastically quoting from and comparing themselves to the greats that preceded them. Tef Poe, however, is bucking the trend. On solo Booth debut Push Me, he boldly asserts: “I don’t look up to rappers, I don’t get inspired.” Even so, he’s invited one of the industry vets he most respects to join him on his latest promotional single. With Koko‘s soulful sampling of Andy Bey’s I Know This Love Can’t Be Wrong) as his backdrop, the St. Louis representative trades iconoclastic verses with Detroit repper and Slaughterhouse member Royce Da 5’9” (a line from whose ‘04 cut Regardless provides this record’s title and sampled hook). Though this joint isn’t currently part of any forthcoming project, those feeling Push Me can keep it locked for all the latest from Tef Poe.
