The Dean’s List - Take Shape
Since The Dean’s List first graced our pages back in March of 2011, things have really begun to Take Shape for the Boston trio: while Sonny Shotz, DJ Mendoza and Mik Beats haven’t gotten that big major-label contract quite yet, they did just blow up the the hip-hop blogosphere with the April 3, release of their junior album. And, as they make clear on the latest single off the project (released along with its Elan Alexenberg-directed visuals), this is just the beginning of a long and fruitful reign over the industry. As usual, the record is a team effort; over the crew’s own party-ready synth grooves, Shotz reminisces about the memories made thus far and toasts to many more happy years to come. When he’ not waxing celebratory, he finds time to work in the occasional historical reference: “I had a vision mama, kinda like Shaka Zulu / A nation under [siege], diseased with all the voodoo.” Does this cut leave you itching to party a little more with The Dean’s List? Then what are you waiting for—head down to iTunes and grab a copy of their freshly-released full-length, Generation X.
