L.A. Riot

For those who haven’t been following Thurz’ march towards the release of his L.A. Riot album, let’s play a little catch up, shall we? First there was the highly rated Rodney King, followed by the highly rated Los Angeles, followed by Prayer, Kings Keep Marching and Molotov Cocktail, all - you guessed it - highly rated. Hmmm…I wonder what the ratings are going to be like for the L.A emcee’s newest single Riot? (Note: that was digital sarcasm, I don’t wonder.) Oh, and did I mention Black Thought’s on a guest verse?  DJ Khalil sets the sonic stage here, mining turntable touches with a heavily pacing beat that Thought bats lead off on, opening the festivities with one of the raspier and angrier verses we’ve heard from in a minute. More importantly, King Thurz holds his own on the aptly-titled Riot, First48ing his bars, and dropping what I believe to be rap’s first Narnia reference in hip-hop history (excluding Lazy Sunday) while he’s at it. If this doesn’t get you hyped for the release of L.A. Riot this Tuesday, August 9 nothing will.
