Tony Williams - King or the Fool

Finding Dakota Grey

I’m not a person who’s very easy to scare, but every once in a while I’ll hear a sound that makes me startle a little, or I’ll surf the net and accidentally come across a picture of Marilyn Manson with prosthetic breasts (I dare you to look that up). I rarely get this feeling from a song, though, but that’s just what background-singer-turned-frontman Tony Williams accomplishes with his first Booth feature, King or the Fool. Tony’s vocals are fantastic, as he manages to maintain an appealing, almost pleading tone with a girl who apparently can’t make up her mind about him. However, the (creepy) problem lies in Chris Cutta and Key Tech’s production, which sounds slightly off and more fitting for horror movie than an r&b album. All things considered, though, King or the Fool is a great song, and if its purpose is to appeal to a sense of desperation, it succeeds. Look out for it on Williams’ Finding Dakota Grey EP, available online now.
