Trae The Truth ft. Lupe Fiasco, Big Boi, Wale, Wiz Khalifa & MDMA - I’m On

Posted 4 years ago
Featuring:
Producer:
Cy Fyre
Album:
Street King

As the self-proclaimed Street King, Trae the Truth must roll with an appropriately dope retinue, right? Indubitably; and if you don’t believe me, a listen to the his latest buzz record should suffice to set you straight. I’m On finds the Houston mainstay and a few of his most talented courtiers gathering to share their experiences on the hustle. First to flow over Cy Fyre‘s driving rhythm section and understated sample work, Chitown mainstay Lupe Fiasco drops an opening verse packed with automotive metaphors before passing the mic to the headliner for some of his trademark near-whispered hood talk. After Trae’s contribution, Big Boi showcases his skills as an unintentional motivational speaker, Wale does his damndest to prove that one can indeed serve both God and Mammon (“I’m in love with my God, that’s in love with this money.”), and Wiz Khalifa busts out his most relentless flows on a high-rolling closing 16. Complete with the smooth chorus vocals of MDMA, this joint is the hip-hop equivalent of a royal flush—or is Trae’s hand missing a card or two? You decide. Readers who agree with my assessment should be sure to cop Trae’s sixth album when it drops next Tuesday, July 12.
