New York City: The Album

With his next project, Troy Ave intends to sum up all five boroughs of hip-hop’s hometown in a single album. It’s an audacious move coming from an unsigned upstart, but before you judge the emcee for his hubris, take a look at the heavyweight guests he’s assembled for the lead single. Yeah, those are some serious co-signs. On New York City, the set’s title track, a head-noddable John Scino beat sets the mood as the Brooklyn buzzmaker trades verses with Wu-Tang icon Raekwon, Mobb Deep representative Prodigy and C-N-N rhymesayer Noreaga. Who turned in the best 16? That, my friend, is for you to decide. This star-studded street banger is just the beginning of the dope material in store on New York City: The Album, which currently awaits a spot on the release calendar.
