At first I assumed that the title of Uno Hype’s new release would be a nod to one of the most classic of classic albums in hip-hop history, but after watching the new video for Train of Thought I spotted nary a Talib Kweli or Hi-Tek reference. But regardless of Uno’s specific intentions, this new single does share a commitment to dopely honest hip-hop with its similarly named predecessor. Producer DJ Black Diamond sets the tone with a minimalistic and cloudy but still head-nodding beat that the DMV emcee uses to lay down lyrically astute looks inside his life…his real life: “I can’t blow this shot, I only got one in my life / I brought my heart you brought a knife / should we go numb it with ice?” Damn, now that’s the type of line that makes you think; kind of like a certain album that came out in 2000. Fans can continue to follow Hype’s thoughts down the proverbial tracks by picking up his cleverly-titled new mixtape, F**k the Hype, available for free stream and download right now. No, seriously, right now.
