True To My Word

Driven, persistent, steadfast, unfaltering… Sorry, just trawling the thesaurus for a word to express exactly how g*ddamn determined Vaig is to make it in the music game—as you’ll see upon listening to his latest effort, “motivated” hardly cuts it. Making its world premiere right here in the Booth, this freshly-leaked album cut finds DJ Plan B manning the boards, slicing and dicing a vintage soul sample into a driving boom-bap instrumental as the Pittsburgh representative spits about his damn near monomaniacal level of dedication to his hustle. That’s not to say he’s all business; in the course of emphasizing his superhuman focus and dedication, Vaig keeps listeners entertained with cultural allusions (“I will survive, like I was the son of Gloria Gaynor”) and colorful similes (“At one point I was just into life’s cheap thrills / Had to pause like old ladies walking up steep hills.”). Does this larger-than-life grind anthem leave you craving more? Keep it locked—Vaig’s True to My Word LP has yet to receive a solid drop date, but you can count on The DJBooth to keep you supplied with the latest news and tunes.
