Life is full of choices; for example, you could choose to renounce all your worldly possessions at this very moment and devote the rest of your life to feeding the hungry, or you could sit on your derriere and listen to this dope new freestyle by Jersey emcee Voli. Just kidding; that’s what we call a textbook example of a false dichotomy. In any case, be sure not to give away your laptop until after you’ve taken a listen to Redemption, which finds the freestyle series contributor using an inspirational quote by Will Smith as the springboard for some punchline-laced reflections on the path his life has taken. Backed by his own exuberant, funk-sampled boardwork, the emcee hits the ground running, lacing the beat with bars as witty as they are insightful: “Never thought I’d work a nine-to-five straight out the school, though / Life’s like that, can’t plan-it like Pluto.” He concludes with a message we’d all do well to take to heart, spitting, “Time will fly every second I don’t.” Like what you’re hearing? More hot beats and food for thought await on Voli’s The Wall mixtape, scheduled to hit the ‘net this spring.
