Given Christ’s comments on the rich throughout the Gospels, it’s more than a little ironic to see rappers expressing their faith by rocking diamond-encrusted copies of his visage around their necks. On new single Golden Salvation, Wale uses a play on words to remind his peers that material abundance and spiritual riches are two very different things: “Jesus Piece Jesus piece, Jesus piece / But don’t nobody want to know Jesus’ peace.Lee Majors takes us to church on the production tip, enlisting a full gospel choir to accompany the D.C. representative as he delivers his mordant verses. An unknown director’s official visuals provide a cinematic illustration of the fine line between God and mammon.
