Willy Northpole - Rat

Posted 7 years ago
Producer:
Teddy Riley
Album:
Unreleased

Inspired by many of gangsta rap’s classic LPs, Phoenix’ Willy Northpole decided to go the “concept album” route with debut full-length Tha Connect, telling a story set in the mean streets of his home city.  On this “deleted scene” cut from the album’s tracklist, Northpole discusses that vile creature that is the bane of every rapper’s existence —the informant, snitch, or Rat.  Northpole breathes new life into the semi-cliché rap theme, spitting some of his sharpest rhymes to date (“They say the alphabet with no G’s”), but the inarguable highlight comes courtesy of the one-and-only Teddy Riley; the beatsith’s rock-infused boardwork (sampled from the White Stripes’ I Think I Smell A Rat) deserves to be blasted at the maximum street-legal volume, and will doubtless add a few rap-rock fanatics to Northpole’s fanbase.  Though this track is not set for inclusion on any future project, fans should keep it locked to the Booth for more info on Northpole’s forthcoming, currently-untitled mixtape, which will bridge the gap between Tha Connect and his sophomore album.
