Wrekonize - Neon Skies
Like Corey Hart, Wrekonize wears his sunglasses at night. Whereas the ‘80s pop star was trying to shield his eyes from his girl’s infidelity (I think—it’s been a hot minute since I’ve heard the song), though, the ¡MAYDAY! rhymesayer has a more practical reason for rocking black shades: the Neon Skies of his native Miami are simply too damn bright. In contrast to its predecessor, the reflective We Got Soul, the latest single off Wrek’s newly-released solo debut is a low-concept, but hi-octane display of lyrical pyrotechnics. Seven reprises his role behind the boards, cooking up an abrasive electronic beat to back the artist’s hyperkinetic flows. Jokes directs the official visuals, which are non-work safe due to nudity (unless your workplace considers neon body paint a form of clothing, in which case you must have the coolest job ever). Released yesterday via Strange Music, Wrekonize’s The War Within LP is available now for free streaming and digital purchase via The DJBooth.
