Wyclef Jean ft. Akon, Lil’ Wayne & Nia - Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill)

Posted 9 years ago
Featuring:
Producer:
Wyclef Jean
Album:
Carnival II (Memoirs of an Immigrant)

With all the guest appearances Wyclef Jean has made (e.g. Hips Don’t Lie, Dangerous, and You Know What It Is,) it was about time the Fugees alum put out a single as the lead artist.  Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill), features Wyclef telling the sad story of a prostitute who meets her demise at the hands of her pimp.  Clef is assisted by Akon, whose hook samples Method Man from the Wu-Tang classic C.R.E.A.M., and whose second verse gives the heartfelt street talk he is known for.  Lil’ Wayne‘s comes in for the third verse, sympathizing for the girl and lamenting over her (expressing genuine concern for the woman, unusual for an MC these days.)  The star power will help this song top the charts, and the message will make people think.  All in all, this song is a rarity for urban music; rarely is any music of this kind so-dare I say it-beautiful.
