Urban music buffs in The DJBooth are likely aware of Chaka Shao Khan‘s impressive achievements in the musical realm. What you may not know is that the Chicago pop-funk-songstress is also the evil emperor of Outworld, and has played the role of announcer in all of the Mortal Kombat fighting tournaments to date. What’s that? Those are two totally different people, one of whom is fictional? F**k, time to fire The DJBooth fact-checkers. In any case, reader fave XV has decided to combine these two famous personages on his latest effort, an unreleased cut leaked as an early holiday gift to all his fans. The Kick collaborator DJ Tech-Neek handles production duties, flipping Khan’s 2007 single, Angel, into a catchy Chipmunk-soul accompaniment as the Wichita representative blasts haters and industry bureaucrats in aggressive yet playfully allusive bars. Between verses, he announces, “You know how they say, ‘This is my year?’ Nah—this is my generation.” Agree with Vizzy’s self-assessment? Then keep it locked you-know-where for anything and everything XV, including the latest on his long-awaited Warner Bros. debut album (due out in 2012).
