Put your right hand over your heart, Booth readers; it’s time for the Squarian Anthem. With the kickoff of his Midwest State of Mind Tour less than two weeks away, spacefaring emcee XV has dropped off a new promo single dedicated to the denizens of his fictional home planet. Whereas the Kansas City resident usually keeps it light and good-humored, this joint finds him in uncommonly aggressive form, staking his claim on the game and annihilating the competition over beat crew Odd Couple‘s jittery, sampled beat (featuring my second-favorite obscure percussion instrument, the cuíca). As always, though, he keeps it witty and allusive, calling his rivals, “root beer—all Barq” and boasting, “I’m Spike Lee meets Shock G meets Rauschenberg meets Mozart.” Booth newcomer Sez Batters assists on the guest tip, chronicling his own quest for hip-hop eminence on the back end. Fans in the Midwest can click here to peep Vizzy’s tour itinerary, and Squarians everywhere can keep their browsers locked to the DJBooth for everything Vizzy in the weeks and months ahead, including the latest on his forthcoming, currently-untitled EP.
