YC the Cynic - Say Superman

Posted 6 years ago
Producer:
J EazeeMay x DaBeatz & J Free
Album:
You're Welcome

Rejecting the values traditionally attached to wealth, possessions, power and fame, the Ancient Greek Cynics were an unconventional group of philosophers whose ideas still run (extremely) counter to the status quo. Though first-time featuree YC the Cynic doesn’t seem like the type to give away all his belongings and start panhandling just to make a point, the Bronx native does share his namesakes’ desire to strip away the superfluous and focus on the essentials – which, in a hip-hop context, would be hot beats and rhymes. Newly-leaked cut Say Superman, sees YC showing off his lyrical chops over the minimal, retro-informed boardwork of J EazeeMay, DaBeatz and J Free, complete with that classic “It’s a bird! It’s a plane!” vocal sample. Though YC’s heavily-alliterated, elaborately-rhymed flows are undeniably dope, the emcee doesn’t let his on-the-mic prowess go to his head; on the hook, he insists “I’m just a regular man with amazing feats.” Superhuman or not, those who like what they’re hearing can hear more on the artist’s You’re Welcome LP when it drops on February 9.
