Yolanda Renee ft. Beenie Man - Gurl From the Hood

Featuring:
Producer:
Kwame
Album:
Promo Single

Yolanda Renee may have recently inked a deal with Universal Republic, but the singer isn’t letting success go to her head – as far as she’s concerned, she’s still the ambitious, street-smart Gurl From the Hood she was when she first entered the game. On her latest promo single (and Booth debut), the Jamaica, Queens-bred singer teams up with a musical heavyweight from the other Jamaica to put a 2009 spin on a reggae classic. Veteran beatsmith Kwame‘s Caribbean groove, sampled from the late “Crown Prince of Reggae,” Dennis Brown’s Stay at Home, should get heads nodding as Renee showcases her tenacious brand of soul, looking back on the obstacles she’s had to surmount to get to where she is today and pledging never to forget where she came from. In addition to contributing background vocals throughout, dancehall icon Beenie Man vouches for Yolanda’s street cred – and her sex appeal – in a gruff guest verse. Will this up-and-comer’s unique blend of hood, soul and reggae add up to pop stardom? Only time will tell, but those who like what they’re hearing can keep it locked to our front page for all of Renee’s latest tunes.
