Soul Inspired: Hip Hop's Revival

In 1994, The Notorious B.I.G. kicked off his career with Ready to Die and its first single, Juicy.  On the record, the Brooklyn icon reflected on how hip-hop took him from the lower-class lifestyle to the high life.  Fourteen years later, the Twin Cities’ Soul Inspired MC, Young Son, has used the classic to write his own ode to simply making it… This Far.  Bypassing all the “typical rap topics” (money, cars, drug dealing, and ammunition), Son proclaims he is his own best influence by noting that while fads fade, real music lasts forever.  Massachusetts producer Teddy Roxpin adds appeal with a vocal/kickdrum beat, adding some extra shocks to Hip-Hop’s Revival.  A lot of people (Hi, Tipper Gore) never thought hip-hop could make it This Far; Young Son continues to prove them all wrong.
