Get ready, rap fans.
A$AP Rocky and Tyler, The Creator have just announced that they will be co-headlining an upcoming tour together. Appropriately dubbed the "Rocky & Tyler Tour," the two will traverse the United States this fall, hitting nine different cities beginning on September 19. If those names weren't quite enough to convince you to purchase tickets, Danny Brown and Vince Staples will be joining as special guests. Tickets go on sale this Friday.
The pairing might seem odd at first, and while both Rocky and Tyler have championed creative brands of hip-hop in their own respective ways, they aren't often regarded as appealing to the same core fanbase. I mean, I don't think the two have ever even been on a record together. The tour flyer further illustrates the contrast; Rocky puffing on a blunt as Tyler plays with a pancake. Then again, it's all about the co-headlining tour these days, and since Wiz Khalifa went on tour with Fall Out Boy this summer I guess anything is possible.
It's interesting to see a pairing like this, and while the intended effect is likely broadening the list of prospective ticket buyers, I can't help but wonder if some fans will not attend that likely would have had the bill been either one or the other. At the end of the day it's about the bottom line and an increase in star power leads to increased ticket prices. The contrast isn't nearly as definitive as Wiz and Fall Out Boy, though, so in this case there should be enough overlap that no fan would be turned off. I think we can all agree that behind-the-scenes footage of the tour is going to be a must watch.
