In the latest installment of Rappers Doing Good, we focus in on the recent efforts of L.O.X. heavyweights Jadakiss and Styles P.
The two veteran emcees have long made their presence felt on the mic, and their next challenge finds them focused on giving back to their hometown in a fresh new way. In order to reinvest in the community, Jadakiss and Styles P opened a juice bar in their Yonkers, New York hometown called Juices For Life in 2014. The goal? To fight the longstanding problem of food deserts, areas with limited access to nutritional foods that are predominately found in low-income neighborhoods.
Elite Daily profiled the latest business venture from Jada and the Ghost.
Having been raised in Yonkers, Jada and P are local heroes who mean a great deal to the neighborhood, and they also fully understand the plight that a lack of healthy options brings to a community. Instead of healthy and/or organic options, residents are often stuck with liquor stores, fast food, and deli's stocked with junk food. A lack of options leads to poorer choices, perpetuating a vicious cycle of diet and health issues.
Fueled by the efforts of Juices For Life, the two emcees hope to break the cycle, giving less fortunate neighborhoods a viable source of nutritious, real food that will hopefully act as preventative care towards the health risks currently at hand.
Jeff Brown, the founder and CEO of Brown’s Super Stores, a chain of grocery stores that offers high quality and nutritional food at affordable prices, praised the rapper's efforts.
"What Jadakiss and Styles P are doing, they’re successful, and they don’t need to be concerned about society… They’re deciding to use their success to make a difference for people. I think if we all did that, we’d fix a lot of our country’s problems."
Juices For Life currently holds three locations in Yonkers and the Bronx, with hopes to expand in the near future. Don't forget to drink more juice.
