The Hidden Influences Behind The Weeknd's "Beauty Behind the Madness"
No music is created in a vacuum. Even the most seemingly original and creative artists are a collection of all of their influences - there's nothing new, only new ways to put together the old. And that's why I really dug this article by our friends at Green Label breaking down all of the source material for The Weeknd's Beauty Behind the Madness album.
"In the Night" is really only an updated version of Barry Manilow's "Copacaba," "The Hills" is an obvious reference to The Hills Have Eyes, and that's just the start. This article is a great reminder that no album and no artist stands alone. If you've been listening to BBTM or are one of those music nerds (like me) who's fascinated by the creative process, I highly reccomend checking out this piece.
