Though my allergies have been Riff Raff bodyguard-ing me lately, it’s been hard to really get in that summer state of mind here in D.C. Partly that's because of the weather, but it's also because I’ve yet to hear that feel-good, warm weather, windows down, umbrella in my drink not over my head, summer banger that will officially signify the start of summer.

Today, that first summer anthem finally arrived and, at long last, after months of wet and cold misery, I can finally say, “Holy shit it’s summer,” which is really just a different way of saying, “Holy shit you need to hear Bernz’ 'Outta My Brain.'"

Strange Music is largely known for their ability to leave your face melted with relentless bars delivered with the ferocity of a starving jungle cat, but what can get easily overlooked while focusing on the rappity-rap is their musicality and versatility. It’s that versatility that makes “Outta My Brain” a standout.

Summer anthems often lack any real punch or attitude, but “Outta My Brain” manages to combine both the relaxed feel of chilling poolside with some textbook, high precision rhymes. While Bernz' calm, cool charisma and his stellar hookwook gives off the much needed summer vibes, guest feature Jarren Benton’s energy (he absolutely killed this) and producer David Grant’s epic drums ensure that purists will find the attitude and edge they expect.

As a huge fan of ¡MAYDAY!, I’ve been looking forward to Bernz' solo debut album. ¡MAYDAY! has played a pivotal role in expanding what many people, myself included, think hip-hop can sound like and Bernz' contributions to that evolution can not be understated. With so much talent in one band and such a cohesive, fluid sound, it can be hard for each member to get the love they deserve.

Since his fellow frontman, Wrekonize, has a few solo projects to his name, it’s only right that Bernz finally gets to unleash his own musical monologue. Going from recording as a part of a group to working solo can be a tricky side step, just ask Kelly Rowland or Michelle Williams, but Bernz is obviously set on breaking out his inner-Beyoncé for his July-bound solo album, See You On The Other Side (pre-order now!).

Holy shit you need to listen to Bernz “Outta My Brain” because holy shit summer is here. Act accordingly.
