"I Found A Lane": Wale Releases "Summer On Sunset" Mixtape

The DMV veteran officially kicks off summer with a smooth, mature offering that will have windows rolled down and legs kicked up.

For weeks Wale has dazzled his fans with the release of one smooth song after another. First it was "My PYT," then "Her Wave," "Reminisce" and finally "Back to the Sun." As if those selections weren't enough to tide fans over until the release of his forthcoming, fifth studio album, Shine, the DMV native has released a new mixtape, entitled Summer On Sunset.

Released on Friday evening via Datpiff, the mixtape is the 10th of Wale's career and his first freebie release since Festivus in December of 2014. Surprisingly, none of the aforementioned songs made the final cut.

"I found a lane," Wale told us via text. "[The project] is soulful [and] melodic. It's rich in melody." One listen to the free, 17-track affair and it's hard to disagree with his assessment. Upon first listen the tone of the offering is mature, sophisticated and grown; it's the work of an experienced artist who has dabbled in a variety of sounds for years, comfortable with where he's currently situated and willing to stay true to his artistic beliefs despite a constant barrage of hate. The tape also stays true to it's title, tailor made for the summer.

Joining the MMG recording artist on his latest body of work are a mixture of veteran and new school talents, including Cam'ron, Eric Bellinger, Jazz Cartier, Phil Ade, Raheem DeVaugn, Tha Dogg Pound, Ty Dolla $ign, and Victoria Monet.

Early next week, we will have a full breakdown of all of the producers, 21 in total, who contributed to Summer On Sunset. In the meantime, press play...
