Flying Lotus Promises New Thundercat Album In 2016

A follow-up to last year's outstanding "The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam" EP is on the way, according to the artist's frequent collaborator.

Well this is exciting.

On Wednesday afternoon, veteran musician, DJ, producer and producer-advocate Flying Lotus took to Facebook to announce that a new, currently-untitled album from frequent collaborator, jazz-electro-R&B artist Thundercat, could be released later this year.

In addition to working together on last year's highly-praisedThe Beyond / Where the Giants Roam, FlyLo assisted Thundercat on both his 2011 debut, The Golden Age of Apocalypse, as well as 2013's Apocalypse.

While Flying Lotus has become a hip-hop household name over the past few years, thanks to some incredible videos and his work with Kendrick Lamar, Thundercat is still a relative unknown name by comparison depsite putting together an incredibly impressive resume. In just the past three years, the Los Angeles native has worked with Childish Gambino, Mac Miller, Vic Mensa and, of course, Lamar.

Release dates or promises provided by rappers and producers on social media should always be taken with a grain of salt, but anytime these two talents announce material is on the way you shouldn't hesitate to get excited.

In the meantime, since there are six months remaining in 2016, we recommend catching up on what you've missed. "Them Changes" is a great place to start:

By DJ Z, who is super excited about this news.
